Das Projekt
Hardly anybody of us experiences a day without laughter, jokes or humour. But there are jokes which have a deeper meaning than just light entertainment. If you think so as well, you probably asked yourself already about the nature of humour, its strength, the different ways of using humour and the intentions behind it.
Since ages humour is a way of expressing feelings, opinions and criticism in every social group, giving this subject an interesting past and future as well as a deep cultural and social background.
The project wants to explore the meaning of humour for political and social criticism as well as its connection to history and culture. In this respect especially the differences and similarities between Turkey and Germany in the recent past and present will be of great importance.
With regard to the coalescence of Europe and globalization in general we want to elaborate where there are strengths and limits to humour. One main discussion in this topic will circle around the caricatures of Mohamed (which you probably remember quite well) and in order to speak about taboos and cultural differences in humour perception as well as intercultural sensibility.
In workshops, small groups, movie – discussion, role-plays and presentations we want to examine, understand and experience different kinds and expressions of humour. To intensify the (new) knowledge you will have the chance to be part of round-table discussions with politicians, journalists and artist to find out, how society, public and state react to humoristic expressions of criticism.
To not only spend our time talking we want to transpose our understanding of humoristic criticism into action by inventing cabaret scenes and caricatures. Of course you will be supported by experienced people, so that in the end you will be able to perform and display your creations in public.
While we have an introductory seminar in a youth hostel in Arendsee, to get to know the people, their culture, experiences and sense of humour, you will stay during the time in Berlin with hosts. Next to the theoretical and practical approaches towards the topic, we of course want to live the fun and the inter-cultural aspects during the whole exchange, we are planning on an international cooking and introductory cultural evening, a visit in a Cabaret, an alternative tourist-tour through Berlin, party and some other fun things.
